Q: Can I register to vote in Kentucky if I am already registered in my home state? A: You cannot be a registered voter in multiple states simultaneously.
Q: As an out-of-state college student, am I allowed to change my voter registration to Kentucky? A: Yes.
Q: What are the requirements to register to vote in Kentucky A: Any person who is at least 18 years old, a resident of Kentucky and has no felony convictions, or who had his civil rights restored by the Governor of the state where the conviction occurred, can register to vote. A person who has been adjudicated to be incompetent and had his/her voting rights terminated by a judge cannot register to vote.
Q: I live in Kentucky during the school year. Doesn’t that make me a resident? A: No. Although your physical location is a large factor in determining your residency, your intention of remaining in the area is a large factor as well. Before you register to vote in Kentucky, you might want to consider things like: how long you will be a student in Kentucky, your intention to remain in Kentucky and subsequent requirements you must meet (ie. obtaining a Kentucky ID or driver’s license and license plate). Q: I am a Kentucky resident attending college out-of-state, can I maintain my Kentucky registration? A: Yes. A person does not lose his/her residency merely for a temporary absence from the state.
Q: How can I cast my vote in Kentucky if I am attending school out-of state on Election Day? A: You are eligible to cast your vote using an Absentee Ballot. Contact your County Clerk for more information on deadlines to request and submit Absentee Ballots for an election.
Q: I am an in-state-student but I am attending college outside my home county. Where do I vote? A: You can maintain your registration in your home county and return there to vote or you may change your registration to the county where your school is located. There are specific periods of time when this can be done. Please contact your County Clerk to receive more specific instructions.
